Applying for a credit card is a simple procedure but still it involves some paperwork and most likely you will be required to present a whole bunch of documents before the issuer decides that you are trustworthy and can be given a credit card. The application procedure has been incredibly simplified thanks to the Internet and although now you can apply for a credit card without leaving the comfort of your home, you still might need to spend an hour or two filling the required forms. But if you have spent days doing your homework – i.e. researching for what types of credit cards are available and which is best for you, these hour or two are nothing.

Before you apply for a credit card, you must do some research. If you have never had a credit card, getting familiar with how the system works in general is strongly recommendable. If you have had a credit card or have borrowed money in other ways, you already have credit report. If you have not seen your credit report, this is a good occasion to do it. In any case, you need to know your credit score. Your credit score is very important because if it is poor, you will get rejected for those cards, for which only perfect credit is allowed.
