The nerve in your tooth has been cleaned out and replaced with a medicine that will help the tooth heal. If this tooth has been causing you pain this root canal should make it so it will not hurt. However, there may still be some infection and/or inflammation in the bone around the tooth which may cause some pain, especially chewing. When necessary, antibiotics will be given to help clear up the infection. If there is pain following the root canal treatment we recommend taking an anti-inflammatory pain medication such as ibuprofen or aspirin. If pain persists for several days or is severe, please contact the office.

After a tooth has had a root canal, the tooth becomes more brittle. This means that the tooth is more likely to crack or break. We recommend that all posterior teeth and anterior teeth that have had many fillings be covered by a crown to protect the tooth from breaking. If we did not schedule you to complete this treatment please call immediately to schedule. If for any reason you are unable to complete the crown at this time, be advised of the potential for your tooth breaking, and be careful what you eat. We would recommend a softer diet preferably chewing on the other side of your mouth. This should decrease the possibility of breaking the tooth.

If the root canal was not completed, you probably went home with a temporary filling in your tooth. You also should have been scheduled to complete the root canal. It is important that the root canal be completed as soon as possible. Until the root canal is finished and a crown is placed over the tooth, the tooth can become painful, infected and/or break.

To help minimize the likelihood of breaking a tooth, a soft diet and eating on the opposite side of your mouth is recommended until the tooth can be crowned.

Generally we are able to finish everything in a single visit, however, future appointments may be necessary to: Finish Root Canal, place a Crown or simply follow up on the status of the tooth.

Bret A. They can even be an alternative to wearing braces for a year or two to straighten your teeth. If the teeth are not too severely out of alignment, porcelain veneers can permanently and pleasingly cover the slight misalignment in just a couple of visits.

What is porcelain?

Dental porcelain is a glass-like substance which closely resembles tooth enamel in several ways:

· It can be matched to the shade of your natural teeth

· When bonded to the tooth’s surface, porcelain veneers become a part of that tooth and provides a very strong and durable surface· It absorbs and reflects light the same way that our tooth enamel does. It’s translucent, so that light enters the porcelain and bounces back off the bonding layer beneath it. This is similar to the way light enters natural tooth enamel and bounces back off the dentin layer beneath it. In both cases, the result is that pearly white sheen which makes for a beautiful smile.

Advantages of Lumineers®

1. Lumineers® are made from a patented type of porcelain known as Cerinate®. This is an exceptionally strong porcelain, which means that Lumineers® can be made extremely thin. They can be as thin as 0.2 mm, like a contact lens. A traditional porcelain veneer is about 0.5 mm.

2. Because Lumineers® are so thin, the tooth does not have to be scuffed or shaved down to make room for them. Nor are any anesthetic shots necessary for affixing them to the tooth.

Lumineers® are made by the Den-Mat corporation in California, a company founded in 1974 by a dentist who was dissatisfied with the dental materials then available. Dr. William Cohen at Glenview Dental Excellence in Glenview, Illinois, has also been an innovator, seeking out new training, new techniques, and new dental products throughout his 25 years of dental practice. He has given stunning smiles to many models and media personalities and is an enthusiastic supporter of Lumineers®.

“I recommend Lumineers® to anybody who’d like to have porcelain veneers,” he said, relaxing in the comfortable massage chair he provides for his patients. “With good care, they’ll last for your lifetime, and remember too that porcelain is highly stain-resistant.”

Dr. Cohen provides the full array of cosmetic dentistry for the Chicago, Illinois area, even offering spa dentistry with every comfort, and sedation for those who feel extra anxious about visiting a dentist. His friendly personality matches the comfortable and relaxing atmosphere of his dental offices.

For more information on porcelain veneers and cosmetic dentistry, click here.

Orthodontic Braces

1) What do you know about orthodontic braces?

Do you have crowded teeth, tilted teeth or you just do not like your smile. So you might need to wear an orthodontic braces which is going to apply continuous light pressure on your teeth for relatively long time & this light pressure is going to move your teeth to their right position. Afterwards, the bone which is lied around your teeth is going adapt itself around the new position of your teeth after completion of the treatment which is very important to prevent your teeth from going back to their old position after the end of the treatment with the orthodontic braces.

2) For how long I need to wear the orthodontic braces?

The duration of the treatment depends on the teeth & gum state of health, the width of distance which should be crossed by the teeth & on the cooperation of the patient ( he should attend all his appointments on time ). So treatment time differs from individual to another but mostly it is between one year to three years.

Following orthodontic braces removal the patient should wear removable appliance all the day for six months & afterwards he should wear it only during the sleeping hours for as long as the orthodontist ask. It is very important to wear this removable appliance so your teeth do not go back to their old position.

3) How many times I should visit the orthodontist during my treatment?

Usually you need to see the orthodontist once per month. During your visit your doctor is going to change & adjust your wires to make sure that the orthodontic braces are applying the right amount of pressure on your teeth to move them to their new position.

4) Dose orthodontic braces cause any pain?

After the adjustments of the orthodontic braces by the orthodontist you might feel some pain or discomfort which is usually relieved by analgesics. Had you suffered any severe or chronic pain just consult your doctor who knows how to relieve your pain the right way.

5) Does age affect the success of the orthodontic treatment?

Teeth movements are not affected by age. So, it is possible for old & young people to put an orthodontic braces.

Tala limaz , did you find those FAQs helpful? In the initial phase, your gums may swell and bleed easily during brushing and flossing. Gum bleeding is an early indicator of gingivitis.

Plaque which buildup along the gum line is responsible for causing irritation on the gums. The bacteria releases toxic substances which irritate the gums. If you don't remove it, the accumulation will continue. It will become tartar or calculus less than 24 hours. At this point, the bone structure surrounding the teeth is not yet compromised. But if you continue to have poor oral hygiene habits, gingivitis may progress to periodontitis. Then bacteria begin to attack the underlying structures and bone around the teeth and eventually you encounter tooth loss.

To prevent gum irritation, you have to keep the surfaces of the teeth clean. Don't allow any food residue to stick to them. Neutralize any toxins in the mouth. The following methods can help to prevent irritated gums.

1. Since plaque is the culprit, ask your dentist or hygienist to teach brushing techniques that can remove any plaque residue in the gum margins. You should only use a soft bristle toothbrush because hard bristles can further irritate your gums. Brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Fluorides help to protect your teeth.

2. Clean the interdental spaces once a day with an interdental toothbrush.

3. Rinse your mouth with dental rinse that contain amine fluoride. This increases the fluoride deposit on your teeth. Mouth rinse also cleans areas which are unreachable by a toothbrush.

4. Visit your dentist every six months to detect any gum problems. Early detection can prevent irritated gums from getting worse.

5. High-sugar and high-carbohydrate food and drinks encourage bacteria growth at the edge of the gums. Bacterial plague thrive on sugar and carbohydrate and multiply by converting them into acids. So, reduce the intake of sugar and carbohydrate.

You can also try these two simple home remedies to treat the gums.

1. Mix sage and hot water to make tea. Gargle it in your mouth.

2. Add a drop of tea tree oil on your toothbrush on top of the toothpaste before brushing. This will relieve irritated gums.

Gum disease begins with plaque. It forms on your teeth without you being aware of it. It irritates your gums. Don't let them get irritated too long as it can further develop into serious gum disease. If you can minimize the formation of plaque on the teeth and below the gum line, you not only improve the health of the gums but also avoid expensive treatment.

Andy Lim writes for http://www.gumdiseasesymptoms.com to provide gum disease information.

Bad Breath and Ketosis - Are You Trading One Problem For Another?

Likely you probably read the headline and said to yourself, bad breath and ketosis, whats that all about. Well with the new year upon us and dieters resolved to lose weight even if it kills them. It may very well apply to you or someone you know.

What is Ketosis?

Highly popularized by the late founder of the Adkins Revolution Diet, Robert Adkins, you are said to be in ketosis when your body is using up its own fat stores or (stored energy) as the primary fuel source for energy inside of your body.

At first brush that sounds fantastic to burn your fat stores only! However proponents of this and other low carb diets inherit other problems as a result of following low carb diets, Bad Breath.

Ketosis and Bad Breath

For anyone who have not heard of low-carb dieting, it is a diet that requires users to give up most all of your carbohydrates (a fuel the body uses for quick energy), strictly for the first 14-21 days until your body enters into ketosis.

Low-carb diets instead urge you to consume high protein foods, in place of the carbohydrates normally eaten everyday.

According to founder the late Robert Atkins, when you give up the mass amount of carbs that most people in american society consumes, and replace them with a high-protein diet. The result is significant and sustaining weight loss.

Ok, Atkins Diet, Weight Loss, ketosis What does that have to do with bad breath?

As seen by a National Marketing Study, One of the significant downsides to the Adkins Diet, and other low-carbohydrate diets on the market, is its tendency to cause bad breath.

The bad breath is caused directly by the diets requirement of high-protein foods, such as fish, chicken, beef, while greatly reducing carbohydrate intake.

When this happens the body begins to use up its fat stores as a source for quick energy. This processing or (burning) of fat, releases a chemical called ketones.

Ketones the Process Waste

As ketones are introduced into the blood stream, they enter into your urine, and saliva as the body tries to rid itself of this process waste.

The presence of ketones in your saliva causes the breath of that individual to be foul smelling.

Read more articles to help you understand Bad breath, and other eye opening information such as bad breath remedies, you can take advantage of by exploring different types of bad breath solutions.

Robin Buckson / The Detroit News

Robin Buckson / The Detroit News
Detroit News - Improving dental health will boost people's overall wellness and that of society, Fleszar said.
